Excessive Weight Among Children With Age Between 2 To 10 Years Old

Objetivos: avaliar o estado nutricional de crianças e verificar a ocorrência do processo de transição nutricional. Métodos: estudo transversal realizado em quatro escolas municipais de educação infantil. Foram incluídas todas as crianças de ambos os sexos, matriculadas nas instituições. Avaliaram-se peso e estatura para o cálculo do Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC). A desnutrição foi definida como IMC < que o percentil 5, eutrofia com IMC > ao percentil 5 e < que 85, sobrepeso como IMC > ao percentil 85 e < que 95 e obesidade IMC > que o percentil 95. Resultados: avaliaram-se 333 meninos e 328 meninas. Entre os meninos, 174 (52,2%) estavam eutróficos e 159 (47,8%) apresentaram excesso de peso. Entre as meninas, foi verificado que 197 (60%) eram eutróficas e que 131 (40%) apresentaram algum grau de excesso de peso. Dentre aquelas com idade entre 2 e 4 anos, o sobrepeso acometeu 27,4% e a obesidade, 23,9%. Conclusão: o peso excessivo foi elevado em nosso estudo e tais dados reforçam o processo de transição nutricional.

Objectives: to evaluate de nutritional profile of children and verify the nutritional transition process. Methods: cross-sectional study achieved in four public schools. Both sex children and that were registered at schools were included. Weight and height were evaluated to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI). Malnutrition was defined as BMI < the 5th percentile, normal BMI > 5th percentile and < 85, overweight as BMI > 85th percentile and < 95 and obesity as BMI > the 95th. Results: 333 boys and 328 girls were evaluated. Among boys, 174 (52.2%) were normal and 159 (47.8%) were overweight. Among girls, it was found that 197 (60%) were normal and 131 (40%) had some degree of overweight. Among those aged between 2 and 4 years, overweight and obesity occurred in 27.4% 23.9%.174 boys (52,2%) were normal and 131 girls (40%) had excessive weight. Among children with 2 and 4 of age, 27,4% were overweight and 23,9% obese. Conclusion: excessive weight was high in this study and these data reinforce the nutritional transition process.
